Rich Akers, PMHNP-BC
Hi! I am Rich Akers, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Born and raised in the scenic state of Wyoming, I find solace and inner peace while immersed in the wonders of nature. With a nursing degree under my belt, I made the conscious decision to serve as a nurse in the Navy Reserves. This chapter of my career highlighted the glaring need for expanded mental health resources, inspiring me to pursue further education.
I successfully completed my Master’s of Science in Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, achieving high honors along the way. My professional journey has given me with the opportunity to work with patients of diverse backgrounds and varying age groups, assisting them on their transformative path towards self-improvement. To facilitate this process, I skillfully employ a broad range of tools, including psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, as well as an emphasis on supplements, nutrition, and lifestyle changes tailored to meet each individual's unique needs.
A fundamental aspect of my approach involves establishing genuine connections with patients and their families. By delving into a patient's daily routine, I gather crucial insights that enhance my understanding and inform the most effective treatment strategy.
In addition to my professional endeavors, my wife, Blaire, and I ventured to Bend, Oregon a few years ago. With Blaire being from Oregon, we spent a lot of time exploring the stunning landscapes before settling down. We love whitewater rafting, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, and fishing. Our three golden retrievers Truman, Murphy, and Bess also add to our enjoyment. I enjoy playing ice hockey and tennis to stay active and balanced.
It is my unwavering commitment to extend compassionate care to those seeking assistance on their mental health journey. I am excited to bring my expertise to Canyon Behavioral Health, collaborating with you to make a profound impact on the lives of individuals in Central Oregon.
